Laser cutting
If you are interested in laser cutting for your latest project
here are some frequently asked questions to help you.
What is Laser Cutting?
Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to vaporise materials, resulting in a cut edge. While typically used for industrial manufacturing applications.
What materials can be cut and engraved using co2 Laser Cutters?
Solid wood, MDF, Moisture Resistant MDF, Fire rated MDF, Medite MDF, Ply, Birch Ply, A huge range of natural wood veneers, bamboo sheet material, Cast and extruded acrylic sheet, perspex, leather, rubber sheet materials, paper, mylar stencil material. You can even toast a piece of bread with a bespoke design.
What industries use Laser Cutting devices?
All creatives, including artists, modellers, prop making, film and creative industries, jewellery makers, architects, illustrators, sign makers, mural painters. Also tech industries, pcb circuitry and many others
What is the typical lead time for Laser Cutting?
1 - 3 weeks
What types of Laser Cutting devices do you use?
An automated, fume extracted and water cooled co2 laser cutting and engraving machine using industry leading Lightburn software.
Can you handle custom designs or prototypes?
Yes, as we are career creatives we are able to produce custom designs and prototypes, it’s a core part of our business.
What is the maximum size of a part you can laser cut or engrave?
The machine bed on our laser cutter is nominally 900mm x 600mm however we have the facility to joint components to produce bigger projects
How are Laser Cutting job costs calculated?
The cost of machining are generally based on time the machine is running and setup costs or design services required to produce work. However, where the creative process is involved to design and conceive original products, there is the opportunity to negotiate overall project estimates.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No
Can I get a free quote?
Yes, please get in touch.
What file formats do you accept?
We can accept and convert most image file formats.
What are the design limitations for co2 Laser Cutting devices?
Most projects are only bound by the limits of their end application i.e. lasers can cut to a limited thickness so there may be some three dimensional projects for which this process is not suitable. CO2 laser cutters are not designed to cut metallic substances although they can engrave on metallics if used in conjunction with specialist compounds.
Do you offer finishing services?
Yes, we will sand, paint and provide some finishes. e.g. Some of our projects include cutting and building boxes that hold electronic components and therefore we cut, glue and finish these boxes to make them look like antique oak.
How do I place an order?
Get in touch with an artwork file and brief overview of how you envisage your product or artwork coming to life. We operate best on personal liaison and close client interaction every step of the way.
